Criminal and Juvenile Defense Practice

Some of our attorneys are former prosecutors and public defenders, currently providing quality zealous representation of clients in traffic, criminal, and juvenile delinquency matters.  They have tried a full panoply of charges in district, circuit, and juvenile courts including misdemeanors such as drunk driving, position of alcohol by minors, assault, and drug possession – as well as more serious felonies such as burglary, robbery, arson, drug distribution, and murder. Penny Kahn of our firm is a former senior felony attorney and Supervisor of the Juvenile Division of the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office.  Her dedication to the rights of juveniles has been recognized nationwide.  In 2003, she was honored with an Award for Excellence in Juvenile Defense presented by the Mid-Atlantic Juvenile Defender Center.  Two years later, she was instrumental in the passage of Maryland’s House Bill 802, which amended the state’s Juvenile Causes Act and now requires juvenile judges to determine that a youth is “competent to stand trial” when charged with a delinquent act in juvenile court.  Ms. Kahn was the principal author of that legislation.
